Busy, busy, busy. That is the motto for most of us today. The time for home cooking rather than convenience food is decreasing all a rapid rate. The result is slowly but surely we are all getting bigger. Liposuction can help shift the fat along with better diet and a bit more activity.

Women typically gain the extra lumps and bumps of fat round the hips and thighs while for men its the belly. Liposuction used over several areas makes a real difference.

Liposuction can’t make you thin and keep you that way. It can add into the benefits of healthy eating and physical activity.

Liposuction – What is that?

Liposuction means having some of your fat sucked out from under your skin in the lumpy, bumpy areas. It can be done on most parts of your body but the most frequent areas are thighs, tummy, knees, arms, back and neck.

You cannot have too much fat removed during the operation without risking serious problems and several days unwell in hospital. Surgeons know and recognise this and tens of thousands of patients have liposuction and are very happy.

This is clearly not the result you want so there is a weight limit of how much fat is removed. However modern surgical techniques are improving all the time so when you see your surgeon he or she will go into more detail about this and what your options are.

Will I need to stay in hospital?

More and more liposuction patients are going home the same day. If you are having other operations or a lot of fat removed you may need to stay for a night or two.

Will I need an anesthetic?

More and more liposuction is being carried out with local anesthetic and light sedation. This combination means you are pain free during the procedure and sleepy but able to talk if needed. Best of all you probably will not remember anything until after its all over.

Liposuction – a safe procedure?

The risk of complications following liposuction is very low so it is a safe procedure. Trained and skilful surgeons, professional staff and modern techniques are your best defence against problems.

Are multiple liposuction procedures possible?

Liposuction can be carried out several times especially on different areas of the body. You would need time to fully heal from one surgery before the next. Have a talk with your cosmetic surgeon and he or she will be able to give you a timescale, but it is better to avoid repeat operations.

For the very good reason that it works, liposuction is one of the most frequently performed cosmetic surgery operations. In the right hands it is the answer to all those areas where the fat just will not go.
