Far from a meek industry in places as diverse as Thailand, China, Japan, United State, Canada, and all of Europe, liposuction cosmetic treatments are a very popular means of shedding unwanted body fat. The statistics aren’t available for most of the aforementioned countries, but just in the United States, we know that nearly half a million people pay for liposuction on an annual basis. An extension of grooming and beauty care, liposuction popularity is a reflection of humanity’s innate desire to improve their looks.

Let’s talk a little bit about what you can expect if you yourself underwent liposuction. After a lengthy consultation with the doctor, the day of surgery comes and the big event is here. Numbing agents are common but you will rarely be put unconscious for this type of surgery. Instead, you will remain awake but not feel any pain. The doctor will push a piece of equipment technically called a cannula in through the body through some strategically placed incisions (usually hidden within the present skin folds on the patients body). The cannula will move through the body, usually at the guidance of the doctor and sometimes with the assistance of other technologies depending on the technique use, to locate the unwanted fat to be removed. Once found, it is quite literally sucked out of the body.

What happens after the fat is removed? This aspect is not as well understood as what we already talked about, but is still very important. The doctor will sculpt and smooth out the skin, doing so in such a way that will often create the appearance that more body fat was removed that what was actually taken out.

After surgery is over, will a patient go home and stay the night? Unlike more invasive surgical procedures (usually non-cosmetic ones), the patient is nearly always ready to leave immediately after surgery. Not only that, but the patient usually is alert and awake enough to safely drive themselves home! For some this extra realm of privacy is very much appreciated.

Cosmetic surgery is a huge industry that moves a lot of money. But it’s not incredibly expensive, otherwise, it wouldn’t continue to remain so super popular. Liposuction prices tend to start at around $1000 to $2000, but there are many variables involved to change the cost of surgery. Be sure to find a good doctor with experience to back up his or her services, and if the price is, move forward and don’t look back!
