I recently received an email from a person asking me if there was possible a link between depression and high blood pressure. He was kind of joking.
It may sound unbelievable but the link between high blood pressure and depression has actually been studied quite a bit. And the conclusion is that it goes both ways.
If you suffer from anxiety or chronic depression, you’re three times more likely to develop high blood pressure than if you don’t.
Many people suffering depression also engage in unhealthy activities such as smoking, drinking and over eating. And they’re less likely to seek treatment for conditions such as hypertension.
